Abstract

This research aims to identify and rectify the failure in reading the angle signal on the Thrust Direction Indicator (TDI) in the MV's azimuth thrusters' steering gear. Galuh 2. The background of this study arises from the instability of the steering gear movement that disrupts the ship's manoeuvring system. The main problem lies in the instability of reading the angle signal, leading to inaccuracies in determining the vessel's motion. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach to comprehend the control system, involving the TR resistor sensor in responding to changes in the steering gear angle, and the adjustment of the thrust direction indicator steering gear to pressure differences in the response values of the actuator, controlling the steering gear movement through the solenoid valve in the hydraulic system of the Azimuth thrusters steering gear. The conclusion of this study indicates that the pressure imbalance in the actuator system affects the amount of hydraulic oil in the hydraulic system used to drive the driven motor, both for turning left and right. The actuator system functions as a percentage valve controller, with the balancing valve section serving as a bypass control in the hydraulic pump suction system, regulating the volume and pressure of the driven motor.
