Abstract

This study aims to assess the achievement of the Box Ship Hours (BSH) performance standard, identify the key factors influencing its attainment, and analyze the relationship between BSH and loading– unloading productivity at Terminal B, PT BNCT. Optimizing BSH performance not only enhances cargo-handling productivity but also contributes to customer satisfaction, vessel schedule reliability, and the port’s competitiveness at both national and international levels. A qualitative research approach was employed, using observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The findings reveal that BSH serves as a critical indicator of terminal operational efficiency and reflects the overall quality of stevedoring services. Furthermore, a strong positive relationship was found between BSH achievement and loading–unloading productivity. Higher BSH values correspond to greater productivity, as more containers are handled within a given time frame. The case of MV. Meratus Medan 5, achieving 39.61 BSH and surpassing the KSOP Belawan standard of 37 BSH, demonstrates optimal operational performance through effective crane utilization, efficient time management, and minimal idle time.
