Abstract

The need for energy is increasing, along with the growing use of fuel oil derived from plant and animal fossils. One alternative is using biomass energy. Biomass energy is derived from renewable natural resources, so it has the potential to be used as an alternative fuel. In this study, coconut shell waste is processed into briquettes as an environmentally friendly alternative fuel for households or small industries. The purpose of this study is to analyze the quality of the calorific value of coconut shell briquettes in terms of variations in adhesive materials. The results of this study indicate that the calorific value of briquettes with rice flour adhesive is 567 cal/gr, briquettes with starch flour adhesive is 962 cal/gr, briquettes with wheat flour adhesive is 476 cal/gr, and briquettes with clay adhesive is 174 cal/gr. It can be seen that briquettes with starch-flour adhesive have the highest calorific value of 962 cal/g and can be used as an environmentally friendly alternative fuel for households or small industries.
