Abstract

Safety is the most important thing in ship operations, because it concerns human life and spirit. Implementation of the ISM Code procedure is one part of the obligations that must be implemented based on SOLAS 1974 Chapter IX – Management for the Safe Operations of Ships, which provides requirements based on the form of a Safety Management System (SMS) made by the company or person deemed responsible for the ship to create safe ship operations and prevent pollution. The aim of this research is to analyze the implementation of the ISM Code procedure and find out the crew’s training regarding the safety management system on the MT. Pasaman. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive research method, which involves collecting data directly from the research site. With several aspects such as data collection through observation, interviews, and documentation. From the research results, it can be concluded that the application of the ISM Code procedure on the ship MT. Pasaman. The fitting hasn’t gone well. Given the existence of company regulations and policies for implementing the Safety Management System, the authority of the Master, as the person responsible for the entire ship’s crew, must play an important role in increasing crew discipline and safety awareness by conducting well-implemented training and familiarization to reduce work accidents.
